Train Full Time with TBR & Mt Buller Education

TBR athletes are able to train full time at Mt Buller during the 2010 winter, via on snow skiing with TBR combined with schooling with the Mt Buller Education Programme.

Education on Mt Buller, 2010

Mt Buller Education (MBE) provides programmes for the education of students from Yr 3 – Yr 10 who wish to spend all of Term 3 on Mt Buller. The Programmes are ideally suited to students interested in pursuing full-time skiing or snowboarding activities.

Students’ work programmes are provided by their “normal” school. MBE staff liaise directly with their counterparts at these schools, ensuring that students cover the same material as their peers. Language students have the additional benefit of two one-to-one conversation sessions per week with a native or fluent speaker.

School operates from 1 – 4:45 pm each week-day (less for the junior Primary years). The term is a possible 12 weeks, however students no longer need to attend school once they have completed all the work set by their school.

In addition to the full-time programmes, MBE is able to offer educational support, e.g. language, science... for families that might be homeschooling children or who plan to spend a lengthy spell on Mt Buller during Term-time.

Background Information

The Programme began in 1995 and since then, over 500 students have attended the school. Richard Smith, BSc (Hons), PhD, Dip Ed, has been the Programme Co-ordinator since 2000. Before that he taught in the Programme in its first two years after teaching at Geelong Grammar, Timbertop and Scotch College, Melbourne.
