Australia’s best junior talent to battle it out at Mt Buller

The best junior mogul skiing talent in the country will be on display at Mt Buller on Sunday August 1st as competitors battle it out for the honour of Australian junior champion.

Over 100 competitors are expected to compete in the event, which is testament to the popularity of mogul skiing in Australia, driven by strong club programs and success at the Olympic level.

The event serves as a critical competition step for the nation’s mogul skiing athletes, giving them the opportunity to press for national development team selection and providing an ideal lead-up to the Victorian Interschools and ABOM Mogul Challenge events at Mt Buller.

Leading the field will be the youngest athlete from the entire Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, 15-year-old Britteny Cox. Cox will be joined by her fellow Australian development team members Matt Graham, Nicole Parks and Roanna Humphries, who all have won medals for Australian on the international Europa Cup circuit.

Team Buller Riders (TBR) skiers are also expected to feature prominently, especially in the youth category, where Mt Buller skiers accounted for five of the six podium places in 2009. In the junior division, TBR’s Brodie Summers will be aiming to improve on his second place overall finish last year.

The event will take place on the Chamois ski run, featuring 170m of moguls and two jumps for competitors to negotiate.

Two age categories are on offer, junior (14-19) and youth (13 and under), with trophies awarded to each male and female podium winner and prizes donated by K2 and Bolle.

TBR Athletes
We strongly encourage all TBR athletes to compete in the Junior Nationals, especially the TBR Mogul and Grom athletes.

The Junior Nationals event is aimed at being a fun mogul event, with every competitor having two runs with the higher scoring run counting towards an athletes final placing.
