Australian world number two headlines field at the 28th ABOM Mogul Challenge at Mt Buller

30/8/2016

Picture
Australia’s best mogul skiers will be looking to defend national pride against a host of leading international athletes in the 2016 ABOM Mogul Challenge on Saturday September 3 at Mt Buller.

One of Australia’s most iconic and longest running events, the ABOM Mogul Challenge is set to provide spectacular dual mogul action yet again, with one of the strongest fields expected in the events history.

Current world number two and five time ABOM Mogul Challenge winner Matt Graham will lead the Australian charge against athletes from Canada, China, Great Britain, Japan, Korea and the USA. Graham is fresh off an outstanding 2015-2016 World Cup season for Australia where he won his first ever World Cup event and was crowned Australian snow sports athlete of the year.

Other leading Australian athletes include two time Olympian and World Championship medallist Britt Cox with past ABOM champions Nicole Parks and Brodie Summers also expected to feature prominently.

The 2016 ABOM Mogul Challenge will take place on the Chamois ski run located in the heart of the Mt Buller Village, an ideal venue for spectators. The event will run in the dual moguls format, where athletes compete against each other side-by-side down a 200m long course featuring two table top jumps.

Competitors will be battling it out for $8000 in prize money along with the honour of etching their name into ABOM Mogul’s history. Past winners have included some of the all-time legends of the sport, including the last three Olympic Champions in the men’s event: 2010 & 2014 Olympic Champion Alexandre Bilodeau (CAN) and 2006 Olympic Champion Dale Begg-Smith (AUS).

Younger athletes are also encouraged to compete in the Junior (19 & under) and Youth (13 & under) categories where divisional winners compete for trophies and goggles from event sponsor Bolle.
The ABOM Mogul Challenge is sanctioned by the International Ski Federation (FIS) with results contributing to World Rankings and National team selections.

Once again the crew from The ABOM Hotel will be keeping the crowd fed and refreshed with a BBQ and beers at the bottom of the course. The official event party commences 8.30pm at Moosehead Bar at The ABOM, celebrating a spectacular day of competition with local DJ Buddha on the decks.

Mt Buller Slopestyle Results

7/8/2016

The eagerly anticipated new Slopestyle presented by Frank Health Insurance event created a real buzz in the Skyline Park yesterday with a solid turnout of great local slopestyle talent and plenty of spectators.

The crowd were given a good show by the 60 competitors who threw down in the best of two runs format. Clear conditions and a hard fast course made for an exciting day and some impressive tricks.

It was a great day for sibling rivalry with the Staveley family securing top billing for the men's and women's open snowboard division thanks to impressive runs by Luke, Lauren and Cam Staveley.  Also in the Rodden household both Jared and Talae dominated the Open Ski division with their impressive show of tricks to secure the top two places.
Congratulations to all participants. It was a great day in the park and an opportunity to simply enjoy the fun and flow of slopestyle skiing and boarding.
