Last year, it was an amazing event that embodied the rich history of Team Buller, Tribe Gonzo and TBR. We strongly recommend all athletes enter the event and we'd love to see you, the parents showing off your skills too. The FreeBOM is for every skier. It is your chance to get a cheer from the lift, a high-five at the bottom of the run and a shout-out from an MC in a one piece suit. It’s not about how well you ski it’s about how well you want to ski. This is theatre, this is action, this is the way skiing was meant to be before espresso coffee made it just another Saturday. The competition is much like a big mountain event but instead of being held on the side of a steep rocky peak the event is located on Mt Buller’s infamous Wood Run – birthplace of Aussie bump skiing and an achievable challenge for intermediate skiers and a blast for experts. Skiers will be judged on their skiing fluidity, aggression, line choice and control. The format is relaxed and the judges are as much a part of the entertainment as they are looking at the skiing. Prizes will be awarded to all ages and genders based on skiing, dressing, airing, falling and FreeBOMing. Prize categories include Best Old +40 y.o, Best Young -16 y.o, Best Dressed Guy and Girl, Best Fall, Best Male Skier – “Nick Cleaver” Award and Best Female – “Kirstie Marshall” Award. Wood Run is known for its big bumps and Bull Run bowl is the hot spot for Buller’s expert skiers. However, on FreeBOM’s Saturday in August the Bull Run FreeBOM Bowl will be an infusion of ski culture, funky music and friends. DETAILS When: Saturday 22nd August 2015 Sign-on: 8:30am – 10am, Village Square FreeBOM Event: 12pm – 3:30pm, Wood Run Where: Mt Buller’s Wood Run (Subject to change pending snow conditions) Who: Intermediate skiers to Olympians of all disciplines. We invite you all to test your skills on this level playing field of slush, bumps and high-fives. Tickets: $40, Registration includes the Chillfactor Magazine and Official FreeBOM x The North Face t-shirt if purchased before August 16 from: https://www.stickytickets.com.au/28944 Australia’s leading junior mogul talent has competed at Mt Buller for the Junior National Mogul Championships (jNats).
The competition was the first mogul event of the season held in Victoria, with 100 athletes entering the event from seasonal programs at Mt Buller, Falls Creek and Mt Hotham. Capturing their first jNats titles were Team Buller Riders (TBR) athletes Daniel Walker and Claudia Gueli who took out the Junior (Under 19) division. In the Youth (Under 14) division, Flynn Biesse-Fitton and Helena Lansell, both members of the TBR program, claimed victory. The event took place on Bourke St, which gave the athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills to a large audience, with a number of spectacular jumps and dynamic mogul turns in the bumps. Athletes competed for one of the strongest prize pools in an Australian junior event, with $1600 prizemoney on offer from major sponsor Bounce Inc and prizes from Bolle and Aussieskier. Many thanks to the Mt Buller Mountain Operations Team, Race Department, TBR Coaches and volunteers for their efforts in making the event a success.
